⛪️Stillness in the City: A Visit to the Denver Cathedral

Earlier this week, I found myself downtown after a stop at the Colorado State Capitol — camera in hand, surrounded by chatter, tourists, and honking horns. It was one of those bright Denver mornings where everything feels a little too busy.

And then I saw the Cathedral Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, just a few blocks away. I hadn’t planned to go. I didn’t even know if it was open.

But I walked toward it anyway.

🙏 Stillness, Stained Glass, and Gratitude

    The doors were unlocked.

And the moment I stepped inside, everything shifted. The air changed. The light filtered differently. It was silent — the kind of silence that holds you gently, like it knows what you’re carrying.

I sat in one of the wooden pews toward the back. Alone. Just me, some flickering candles, and God.

For those few minutes, I wasn’t a mom or a blogger or a planner or a packer. I was simply a soul sitting in a sacred space, letting gratitude settle into my bones.

    💭 What I Prayed For

    • I prayed for Rhapsody — for strength in her body and peace in her heart as she dances in new spaces.
    • I prayed for direction — in work, in writing, in where we’re meant to go next.
    • I prayed thanks — for health, for the ability to move freely, for the quiet moments that find us when we’re willing to slow down enough to see them.

In the middle of city noise and movement, I found quiet — in a cathedral bathed in light and silence. A few solo moments with God reminded me what it means to be still.

⛪ A Note on Beauty and Belonging

The Denver Cathedral is breathtaking — with its towering arches, stained glass windows, and golden light casting long shadows across marble floors. But it’s not just about how it looks.

    It’s about how it feels.

It reminded me that no matter how far we travel or how busy our schedules become, there’s always space to return to quiet, to remember who we are, and to spend a few moments simply being known.

    🌇 Peace in the Pause

We often chase meaning in the big things — the career goals, the milestones, the perfectly planned family trips. But sometimes, meaning finds us in the unexpected pause between stops. Like wandering into a cathedral when you least expect to. Like sitting still in stained-glass sunlight.

And realizing that the quietest part of your day was also the most full.
